Side Reading

I was looking for something quick to read to fill some time and I came across a book I hadn’t read since high school. CS Lewis is one of my favorite authors and I vaguely remember reading Out of the Silent Planet some time ago. It’s the first of his science fiction trilogy, though I never read the other two. The hero of the story, named Ransom, is forced to travel to another planet and, in the process, discovers truths about humanity and the universe. It can be slow at times but overall, the book is interesting to a decent degree. I don’t know why I never read the sequels. I shall at some point in the future.

Here’s an interesting quote: “What we need for the moment is not so much a body of belief as a body of people familiarized with certain ideas.” This is said when Ransom and he narrator decide to write the book as fiction instead of fact. The quote is certainly thought-provoking when you consider a range of literature from science fiction to Dan Brown.
